He had tickets for many dates on Groupon, Living Social & other deal sites for $20. One of the California gigs was downsized to a smaller venue. You don't do that if it's selling well. My guess is that even with the Toronto sell out, he couldn't keep it afloat until then.

The Toronto show is tomorrow. Pretty sure he could have "kept it afloat" for one more sold out gig. Do you really think he'd pass up the the opportunity to soak in the adoration of a sold out show unless he had to?

He looked very sad and dissapointed in his last concert.

I don't see where I wrote he looked or was sad or disappointed. Or that he projected that onstage.
My comment of "keep it afloat" was meant financially. It's expensive to tour, many people to pay. He may have cut the last few dates because, even with the house from Toronto, he wasn't breaking even.

Will be interesting to see how large the audiences are on the UK tour. Leeds Arena holds 13,500 and tickets are £40. Does he really have that much of a fanbase in the UK to get close to filling that venue at that price?

what a giant *****. Instead of crying like a child, faking sick and going home he should have kept his commitment. Maybe he finally realized his solo music is terrible and the only people buying tickets are fanboy losers living in 1997.
Check the meaning? More like check the ego.

Postponing gigs due to illness is reasonable. Cancelling them altogether sounds like they're cutting their losses.

Some truly extraordinary movements on stage during that 10-minute long Science of Silence, especially after 7 mins...

Science of Silence is one of Richard's best songs and one of a handful of solo tracks that stand up with his Urban Hymns material. With The Verve and some shimmering Valium Skies-esque production I think it would have been a hit.

That said the live versions have never been tight enough to really capture the song, though the versions on this tour have been better than when he's broken it out in the past and I enjoyed hearing it both nights. It's one of the tracks I'm most sorry he's never performed solo acoustic.

I just threw up in my mouth a little.

Science of Silence is the type of song that would appeal to a Barry Manilow fan. It makes the Carpenters sound rock n roll. it is a great example of everything wrong with solo Ashcroft music. Terrible, overdone strings? Check. Inept lyrics? Check. No balls? Check.

I own a shirt that says "Your Favorite Band Sucks" on the front. I'm wearing it right now, and looking at you...

My favorite band is The Verve.

I like the Carpenters, Seals & Crofts, Bacharach, Jackson Browne, James Taylor, Carole King, and a lot of others with that classic AM radio sound. Also Glen Campbell, Barry White, Marvin Gaye, Lou Rawls and others with incredible string arrangements, in addition to Funkadelic and Big Star and plenty of others scenesters find more impressive to namedrop.

Don't see the point in bragging about the narrowness of your musical tastes...

You are confused. There is nothing narrow about my tastes. Nor was I bragging.

The ability to identify awful music does not equate to a narrow taste, it equates to having taste.

That being said, your taste sucks. Mean perhaps, but true.

Apparently, moved from the 3000 capacity Fox Theater to the 1000 capacity Mezzanine venue in San Fran.

Then cancelled through 'illness'.

I smell a rat.

Just had a thought, sorry if this had been mentioned before:

Announcing a tour in 2017, a year after 'These People' was released, struck me as flogging the proverbial dead horse. But, I've just twigged....

He's done it to coincide with the UH 20th anniversary! In yet another desperate attempt to "prove" it was a solo album.

Fucking greasy, sneaky ****. Ugh, my skin's actually crawling.

In that case, wouldn't he have left the tour til around September, when Urban Hymns was actually released? Or at least June when the first single was released.

Maybe.

All I know is (roughly) 20 years after UH was released, some **** is touring, playing songs off it. And, it ain't The Verve.
