In my opinion, a band isn't complete without a constant frontman/woman. But, perhaps understandably, McCabe and Co have decided to forgo a permanent lead singer.

So, what guest vocalists would you like to see on Black Sub 2?

I think they could produce an epic or two with Jamie Lee from Money.

Anyone else?

I bet a phone call in the right direction would convince Jimi Goodwin to contribute to a track. I'm sure Nick and Si have enough respect in the alternative rock world to pull in a few decent names.

If they decided to go that way:
Greg Dulli.
Steven Bayley (ex-The Open)
Robert Harvey (ex-The Music)
Tim Burgess

Cheers Joe.

Well, this thread's been a rip-roaring success!

FFS ...

I meant to come back to this thread, choonin, as I like this sort of "what if" type of thread. Think Jamie from Money is an excellent choice. Their last album is stellar. And Jimi, also. (How I miss doves.)
The singer out of Embrace (is it Danny McNamara, I believe?) would make for a nice vocal He's a fantastic vocalist.
As is the guy out of Starsailor.
Gerard Stark out of Witness would be outstanding, and there is the familial connection there, also.
As far as female singers go, Nadine Shah would be great choice, as her voice is polar opposite of Amelia's. Would be great to see what that would produce.

My memory is failing; vaguely aware but curious what the connection is?

Gerard is Ellie's (Nick's daughter) step dad.

I miss Doves too. Never got to see them live.

The Greg Dulli suggestion is a good one, the last Afghan Whigs album was none too shabby.

I like Danny Mcnamara's voice (and the Starsailor guy), but their songwriting style is pretty formulaic. Not sure NM would be interested. Si and the others might work well with them, though.

Doves were fantastic live. Really great intense live. Hope they get together again soon.
Those two are of a different style. But I think with a different writing dynamic it may be interesting to see what can spring up. It may or may not work, but, if an opportunity arose, nothing ventured nothing gained.
Nicks working with James out of Puressence in Nihilists. Wouldnt have pictured that until hearing about it!

James Walsh of Starsailor is a really good singer, but as I mentioned in the other thread almost any male vocalist will suffer in comparison to Ashcroft.

Goodwin and Doves... meh. As with the recent discussion of BRMC, Doves are one of those bands where I have all their albums and want to like them more than I do, but almost always find myself bored and switching after a few songs. I loved Lost Souls and liked The Last Broadcast, but the records after were pretty underwhelming.

Joe Col and others, once you've insulted me for having terrible taste please let me know 3 songs not from the first two albums I should revisit to give Doves a(nother) fair shake.

Lost Souls:
Cedar Room
Rise (I'd venture that NM is a fan of this track)
Break Me Gently

Last Broadcast:
Caught By The River
Words
Pounding

Some Cities:
Snowden
Sky Starts Falling
Black & White Town
Almost Forgot Myself
Some Cities

Kingdom of Rust:
Jetstream
Kingdom of Rust
Winter Hill
Lifelines
Spellbound
Greatest Denier

I think Kingdom of Rust is flawless so pick any three, really.

I recommend the best of 2disc set. Andalucia was previously unreleased. It's a tune!

Walk In Fire is easily the best song on Some Cities imo.

Even Jimi's solo album has songs on it that RPA would kill for.

I wonder if Thom Yorke would be interested in working with Black Sub.

Some Cities:
Snowden
Walk in Fire
One of These Days

Kingdom of Rust:
10-03
Kingdom of Rust
Spellbound

And there are plenty more. But Walk in Fire and Spellbound are simply perfection.

Agreed
