He's definitely bunged them a few quid because he gets loads of coverage from them.

As for the other albums on their list, they're a mainstream rock station, so their choices don't surprise me. They've got next to no editorial integrity. They're all about audience figures and social media metrics, they never feature real indie and lesser known bands, no matter how good a record they put out. So take their list for what it's worth, nothing.
